Last week KSR was delighted to have Alisa join us for a week of work experience. Davina Vadher, Architectural Assistant, acted as her mentor and guide during her time here and shared her knowledge and skills with Alisa.
Alisa was introduced to the whole practice and taken through some of the projects we undertake here to get a clear understanding of how we work. Alongside getting some on-site experience with some of our architects and Partners, Alisa was given her own project to work through.
Based on a typical Year 1 university project, ‘The Garden House’ brief required the addition of a 100 m² outbuilding in the rear garden of an existing property. Alisa was given flexibility with the brief, like choosing her own client and function for the outbuilding. She then began to research online for precedents. Throughout this process, Alisa was encouraged to sketch elements she found successful from the precedents to integrate them into her design.
Davina introduced Alisa to tools such as SketchUp, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop which she used to represent her designs digitally and in 3D. Alisa also selected some materials which are also reflected in her digital design.
Alisa created a ‘Party House’ for her client Kylie Jenner which met the needs of space for hosting, glamorous and instagramable style, and a design that echoes her individual brand. The house was equipped with hot tub, bar, sauna, relaxing area, and beauty room.
Alisa wowed us all when she presented her work to practice on Friday evening. Through her high level of engagement, applied learning, and enthusiasm she has produced some exceptional work and gave a well-developed presentation.
