Partner, Guy Ailion, explains how this extraordinary contemporary house arose from such a sensitive site in a conservation area. The building appears as single storey and is mostly hidden from its surroundings but opens up onto gardens at lower levels with double height glazing. Careful orientation allows sunlight to penetrate into the heart of the building creating a bright and healthy house with views to the garden.
The client required high standards of sustainability and autonomy incorporating an array of strategies for harvesting power. This combined with a demanding technical brief which pushed us to introduce fun, magic and curiosity, entering the realms of the gamification of architecture.
