Work Expereince

Last Friday marked the end of Rafi’s two weeklong work experience with us at KSR. Just about to start his final school year, Rafi is exploring architecture as a future career path. Omar Mostafa, Architectural Assistant, acted as his mentor and guide during his time here and shared his knowledge and skills with Rafi.

At the start of his time here, Rafi was introduced to the whole office and taken through some of the projects we undertake to get a really good idea of how we work. Rafi was then given his own project to work on alongside getting some on-site experience whilst visiting some of our projects located in St Johns Wood and Hampstead. The ‘Garden House’ brief required the addition of a 100 m² outbuilding in the rear garden of an existing property. Rafi was given flexibility with the brief, like choosing his own client, and then began researching online for precedents. Throughout this process, Rafi was encouraged to sketch elements he found successful from the precedents to integrate them into his design.

Omar introduced Rafi to tools such as SketchUp, Adobe Illustrator and InDesign which he used to begin representing his designs digitally and in 3D. through some experimentation and various sketch iterations he then translated his design digitally.

Yordan Vakarelov, BIM Manager, then hosted an AI Workshop with Rafi. Yordan, demonstrated different workflows for producing renders. Subsequently, Rafi, was able to explore different material options and generate some quick visuals of the anticipated design.

Rafi then expertly presented his work to the practice on Friday evening, leaving everyone at the practice very impressed with his understanding and newly developed skills.
